Barathan Vidhyapathy is 26 year old Sri Lankan Tamil writer, director, and producer based in Naarm (Melbourne). He has written and directed three short films and written many unproduced screenplays for feature films, television, shorts, and webseries
Finding the passion for filmmaking after an undergraduate in design, he is for the most part self-taught. Being an artist is as intrinsic to his wellbeing as air itself, and he wants to use his art to help create empathy, instill meaning, and spark joy in audiences.
His ethos is to care deeply, push past his insecurities, stay humble, and be open to criticism - all while attempting to destroy capitalist patriarchal white supremacy. If it’s not clear already, he's a staunch advocate for social justice and speaking truth to power.
He was most recently selected by the Australian Directors’ Guild to take part in the Equity Foundation’s inaugural Diversity Showcase funded by ScreenAustralia, a six day workshop working with writers and actors to develop a piece that was performed live to over 300 attendees.
